I am District of Cloumbia Police Officer. I am thinking about taking a job with the US Border Patrol. My question is: Can I take my time / Pension / Leave balances with me if I get hired on with the Federal Government?
DC is technically a Federal City. My pay raises must be approved by the US Congress, I am an Employee of the District, therefore, I am technically employed by the Federal Gov, right?

That logic does have sense to it. However, to be safe, check with the HR person or whoever does the interviewing. Also, prior to signing the contract, be sure to get that guarantee (if it has been promised to you) in writing. I would think it would depend on each company/entity.
no, you are not a federal employee and you know this. You are a DC employee.
ASK YOUR PERSONEL DEPARTMENT. But, if you “were” a fed employee, you would lose your vac/sick leave.
But the DC gvpt is weird…
Why ask here? Consult your personnel office.
