<p>If there is one part of our body that we always want to look young and fresh, it is our skin. Regardless of whether you are interested in healthy aging, you probably have spent thousands of dollars on skin care just to give your skin an extra day or two of longevity and youth. This is normal, after all, a wrinkled, lined complexion is one of the most noticeable signs of aging.<br />
Luckily, there are certain healthy aging steps you can take to delay the most dramatic changes that occur to complexion as you age. This article will show you the three best ways to take care of your skin to help you stay young and beautiful long into your golden years.<br />
Without healthy aging, the onset of old age hits complexion the hardest. Firstly, expect to see more and more lines and wrinkles as you grow older. Healthy aging can delay the process, but it is important to be prepared to deal with it sooner or later.<br />
Your skin will start becoming less elastic, which in the long run will lead to it looking saggy and droopy in places. Your oil glands will grow less efficient with time, leading to much drier, thinner complexion. In short, without healthy aging, the fate that awaits your skin in the future is not pretty.<br />
Luckily, there are ways to delay or even alleviate some of these problems. Using a good moisturizer is essential for healthy aging as your complexion will not be as dry and inelastic. A good moisturizer will also help you shed dead skin much faster and more systematically, resulting in complexion that looks much smoother. Of course, no moisturizer will help you delay skin aging forever, however, it is one of the key components of ensuring healthy aging of your skin.<br />
Second, although you may like to spend time lounging on your favorite beach under the scorching glare of the sun, it is important to remember that sun exposure will also lead to drier skin.<br />
Therefore, if you are serious about healthy aging, it is recommended not to spend too much time in the sun. If you absolutely have to go out on a sunny day, wear a good sunscreen as well as sun-reflective clothing. This might take some fun out of walking down the street and looking your absolute best when you were 20, but you will not regret doing that when you are 50.<br />
Third, no matter how relaxing and alluring the prospect of having a long, hot bath may sound, studies show that spending too much time soaking in hot water can also lead to a drier complexion. Sadly, healthy aging for your skin and hour-long baths are not compatible.<br />
It is important to moderate the amount of time you spend bathing and when you are relaxing in a tub, it is recommended that you avoid burning hot water and soak in warm water instead. It may not feel as good, but your skin will not suffer as much.<br />
Furthermore, when you get out of the bath, try not to scrub yourself to death with a towel instead, gently rub or pat your skin and apply moisturizer. You will bask in the glow of freshly scrubbed moisturized skin, while your peers may start to look a bit like the towels they are using to dry themselves.<br />
As you can see, there are many steps you can take to ensure healthy aging of your skin. It is important to keep in mind that time and age will catch up with you whether you like it or not as such, it is important to accept the fact, that one day, your skin will start showing signs of age. At one point, it is important to be able to accept your senior age and embrace it as a new, equally exciting part of your life. </p>

<p>ome people, well, make that most people, don&#8217;t like to live with an age spot blemish, especially if it&#8217;s in an extremely noticeable location, such as the face or the hands. An age spot is also called a liver spot, or solar lentigines, or, less kindly, senile lentigines. Unfortunately, most people will develop them, and while there&#8217;s not much one can do to prevent them, there are a few remedies to encourage them to fade.<br />
An age spot is a darkened spot of skin that is usually located where the skin has been exposed to sun over time, and is caused by an increase in pigment in certain areas of the skin. As people age, their skin becomes less supple and elastic, and fragile. At around 40 years old, age spot development becomes common, and are most often found on the back of the hands, forearms, shoulders, face and forehead, any area where there is a high exposure to sunlight. While harmless and painless, they do cause sufferers a great deal of consternation when trying to conceal them. In most cases, the appearance of an age spot is permanent.<br />
Have you noticed that as you age, your skin seems to tear or bruise easier than ever before? This natural aging condition causes skin cells to become more susceptible to ultraviolet light. Keep in mind that certain locations where perfume or cosmetics are worn may also appear darker. The first sign that an age spot or liver spot will develop is a patch of skin that starts to take on a different color than surrounding tissues, usually light brown to dark brown, although some people experience an almost black patch of skin growing, usually on the arms and hands.<br />
While there is no recommended medical treatment for an age spot, skin bleaching lotions and creams may help to fade the darkened patches, and for severe cases, a procedure known as cryotherapy, or freezing of tissue may be suggested if you suffer from an extreme number of them. While not medically harmful, the psychological affect of age spots for many people leads to self-conscious embarrassment, so if you just can&#8217;t live with your skin changes, a visit to your doctor or dermatologist is suggested. They will be able to explain options for medically directed treatment for your specific needs and condition.<br />
To prevent age spot or liver spot development, try to take precautions when outdoors, such as wearing protective clothing, always using sun block with an SPF of 15 or higher and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Most people are getting into the habit of using sun block during spring and summer months, and then forget that they also need protection from ultraviolet rays during the wintertime too.<br />
Growing older is no fun, but you can slow the onslaught of time and help to protect your skin and health by following general health guidelines and maintaining good habits when enjoying the great outdoors. Better late than never, so if you didn&#8217;t use sunscreen before, start doing so now.<br />
Be aware that if you are in your late middle age or heading into senior territory that such age-related change in the skin may also place you at greater risk for skin conditions. Even dry skin changes might set the stage for severe itching that could injure the skin and infections could result. </p>

<p>More attention is being spent in this country on the topic of aging than every before. As more and more Americans enter their fifth, sixth, and seventh decades, they are looking for ways to feel younger, look younger and age healthfully. Millions of dollars are spent annually on vitamins and food supplements, cosmetics and cosmetic procedures, exercise equipment and gadgets in an effort to ward off, and even deny,  the “ravages” of old age.</p>
<p>In our culture, we tend to think of aging as a breakdown or a decline in health, almost as if our bodies are failing us. However, the Chinese have a different perspective.  According to Chinese Theory, aging are not considered a breakdown, but rather a normal life transition.  How you age and live in your later years depends on your lifestyle in the preceding years.  There are many factors, some you can control and some you can’t, that affect how you will feel and look as you age.</p>
<p>To understand aging from the traditional Chinese framework, we need to understand the concept of Essence.  Essence is one of the most important substances in the body, and is responsible for birth, growth, development, and maturation.  It is also the foundation for all other substances in the body.</p>
<p>We inherit one kind of Essence at the moment of conception, called Congenital Essence.  Congenital Essence is not only responsible for growth and maturation, but also genetic traits and constitution.  As we age, Congenital Essence becomes depleted, and when this Essence is completely used up, according to Chinese theory, we die.  While Congenital Essence cannot be replenished, it can be used judiciously through good lifestyle habits, and it can be augmented by another kind of essence, called Acquired Essence.</p>
<p>Acquired Essence is made up of nutrients from the food we eat, and can be built up by eating well.  Good health, strength, and high levels of energy manifest an abundance of Acquired Essence.  Any excess of Acquired Essence is stored in the Kidney, along with Congenital Essence. </p>
<p>Essence is stored in the Kidney, which in Chinese medicine is a system of functioning, not necessarily the kidney organ.  The Kidney, according to the Chinese, is responsible for growth, maturation, sexuality and fertility.  It also governs the bones and teeth, the brain, and is associated with the ear and hearing.  Essence is strongly associated with the Kidney, and is often referred to as Kidney Essence.</p>
<p>The gradual depletion of Kidney Essence is the mechanism responsible for aging.  It can be seen in weakening and brittle bones, loss of teeth, hearing loss, confusion, and memory problems—all manifestations associated with the Kidney.  Weakness and lack of energy is also a common condition of depleted Kidney Essence, along with lumbar pain, as the Kidney is housed in the lower back.</p>
<p>Eat Well</p>
<p>So how, according to Chinese Medical theory, does one preserve Kidney Essence to age well?  While there are many factors, good diet is the most obvious.  Chinese dietary therapy is a whole discipline by itself, and many books have been written on the subject.  One focus of Chinese dietary therapy is on eating and preparing foods in a way that they are easily digested.  Foods that are difficult to digest use up energy, or Qi, and over a long period of time can deplete Essence.  Some guidelines for eating well include:</p>
<p>-Avoid spicy or greasy foods.</p>
<p>-Avoid very cold foods, such as ice cream or iced drinks.</p>
<p>-Drink fluids that are room temperature or warmer.</p>
<p>-Lightly steam or stew vegetables and fruits, as raw foods can be difficult to digest.</p>
<p>-Avoid drinking too much alcohol.</p>
<p>-Talk to a practitioner of Chinese medicine about what foods are best suited to your specific condition or constitution.</p>
<p>Manage Your Stress and Moderation</p>
<p>Managing stress is another way to protect our health as we age.  Unfortunately, many of us find stress an acceptable by-product of the busy, and often overwhelming lives we lead.  Some of us don’t even realize that we are under incredible amounts of unrelenting stress because we are so busy trying to get everything done.  In either case, stress exhausts us physically, disrupts relationships between organ systems, creating unhealthy imbalances, and depletes essence.</p>
<p>Equally exhausting to our internal organs, especially the Kidney and the Spleen, (which is responsible for digestion) is overwork.  This means long hours spent working or studying without adequate rest.  Damage due to overwork can also be caused by excessive exercise.  Therefore, working in moderation and getting adequate rest is essential to preserving Essence.</p>
<p>Moderation is also key with regard to your sex life.  Because the Kidney is responsible for reproduction, according to Chinese medicine, sexual practices can also affect Kidney Essence.  Having too many children too close together, or having sex too frequently can deplete the Essence and cause premature aging.</p>
<p>Adhering to the principles of Chinese medicine, by incorporating proper diet, adequate rest and moderation in all things, can go a long way toward aging with energy, vitality and good health. </p>

<p>It has been estimated that by the year 2020 senility and Alzheimer&#8217;s disease will affect 14 million Americans.  With the birth of the baby boomers, and with advancement of medicine within the last 100 years, we will soon have a large portion of our population in the senior citizens age group.  Living to a ripe old age is now quite common so now we need to focus on the quality of life.<br />
What good is living to be over 100 years of age if we have lost our minds at 65?  Becoming a nation of caregivers for the elderly would not benefit society or the government.  Our brain, like any other organ in our body, needs to get proper nourishment, have toxins removed, exercised, and get the proper amount of rest in order to function properly.  Some herbs have shown the ability in helping prevent and in some cases treat or even reverse memory loss.<br />
Chief of the US Dept of Agriculture&#8217;s Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University stated, because the brain consumes and processes so much oxygen, it produces a lot of free radicals, and is most susceptible to oxidative damage.  Free radicals are created during the normal process of metabolism; cells produce unstable oxygen molecules that damage cells.  Almost all of the anti-aging products on the market promote the anti-oxidant quality of their product.<br />
Ginkgo.<br />
Ginkgo is also called the duck foot tree and was found in China during the late 18th century.  A French study conducted in the 1980s showed that women taking 600 mg of Ginkgo a day showed short-term memory improvement.  It is also believed to improve circulation, and helps with sight and hearing loss.  Ginkgo is also a blood thinner and anyone taking blood thinners or aspirin should consult with their doctor prior to starting any treatment that uses Ginkgo.<br />
Lycium or Lycii Berries.<br />
The Chinese Herbalists have used lyceum berries, also known as Chinese Wolfberry, since the 1st century AD for improving the circulation, removing toxins from your liver and kidneys. Lycium berries are also rich in antioxidants, which can neutralize free radical by pairing up or binding with the free radical elections thus inhibiting them from damaging cells in the human body.  They are also used to treat dizziness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision.  The root of the Lycium plant is used to relieve cough, wheezing, high blood pressure, and reduce fever.<br />
Blueberry and Blackberries.<br />
Blueberries and Blackberries contain a large quantity of antioxidants, which may help reduce the effect age related memory problems.  They contain a chemical called anthocyanins which are very powerful antioxidants.<br />
Hawthorn.<br />
Hawthorn has an high concentration of anti-oxidants and can help remove toxins in the brain and can strengthens the blood vessels which helps get oxygen and nutrients transported to the brain.<br />
