My First Mock Draft Update Ill Update These Every Thursday Until Draft Day?

July 26th, 2009

Right now I’m only breaking down round 1 because it’s way too early with the draft process still taking shape with bowl games, the NFL Playoffs, and the combine. There are still pieces to the draft puzzle that need to be connected. Anyway let’s get to the mock draft.
2009 NFL draft I’ll only do the top 15 picks because the draft boards won’t be official on where San Diego has the 16th pick right now and that won’t last. So that’s why I’m only doing the top 15 and I don’t want to make the details too long.
1. Detroit Lions Matthew Stafford I’m convinced after his monster game against Michigan State the Lions will take him #1. Sam Bradford might fall a few picks after losing to Florida next thursday.
2. St. Louis Rams Andre Smith LT/RT Alabama Smith can play both tackle positions and with Orlando Pace still in the league the Rams will start him out at right tackle and move him to left tackle if Pace gets injured or retires.
3. Kansas City Chiefs Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma The Chiefs need a signal caller for the future and they need one who plays in a spread offense like the spread offense the Chiefs have.
4. Seattle Seahawks Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael Oher got selected here since Walter Jones is aging and they will need a left tackle to replace him when he retires. The Seahawks can’t afford to pass up on someone as talented as Crabtree.
5. Cleveland Browns Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest The Browns could draft Chris Wells here, but they need major help on defense and with Willie McGinnest retiring it’s time to draft your linebacker of the future.
6. Cincinnati Bengals The Bengals have solid tackles in Stacey Andrews and Levi Jones this team needs 3 improvements protecting the quarterback, getting to the quarterback and drafting a solid runningback for the long term. I have the Bengals drafting Brian Orakpo. Look for the Bengals to acquire one of 2 top 10 runningbacks next year in Javhid Best and LeSean McCoy. I think Palmer can improve the o line if he works with them constantly in training camp.
7. Oakland Raiders Michael Oher LT Ole Miss If Al Davis has the opportunity to draft Oher he should pray at a local church on draft day and be greatful and thankful for the opportunity to draft a tackle who can protect Jamarcus Russell for years in the NFL.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars Eugene Monroe LT Virginia I know Khalif Barnes was projected to be good this year, but he gave up way too many sacks Monroe is the perfect replacement at #8.
9. Green Bay Packers Michael Johnson I think the Packers secondary is talented enough to get better in training camp with Charles Woodson and Al Harris you can either improve your D Line and get more sacks by taking Michael Johnson or you can make a minor improvement to a so so dismal secondary in selecting Malcom Jenkins. I think getting to the Quarterback is a first priority for the Packers instead of taking a cornerback.
10. San Francisco 49ers Malcom Jenkins CB Ohio State Another steal in the draft Nate Clements went to Ohio State he is pretty good and since he is getting up in age he can help another former Buckeye become an elite corner at the next level.
11. Buffalo Bills Everrette Brown DE Florida State Brown has put up very good sack numbers at Florida State and the Bills should draft him. No one on the Bills defense had more than 4 sacks. Aaron Schobel got injured against the Cardinals so if the 2 play defensive end next to each other along with Marcus Stroud in the middle at defensive tackle looking to rebound from a dismal year this team could become a playoff contender in Buffalo. I considered Maualuga here because Paul Posluzney was an Left Outside linebacker at Penn State they could switch Paul to left outisde linebacker puting Maualuga at left outside linebacker and Kawika Mitchel at right outisde linebacker or middle linebacker if they still have Angelo Crowell then this team could go to a 3-4 defense scheme like the Steelers, Taylor Mays is another option too with Terrence McGee, Leodis McKelvin, Donte Witner, and the need of a free safety to replace Laywer Milloy. In the end I see the Bills taking Brown.
12. Denver Broncos Rey Maualuga MLB USC Maualuga is the best middle linebacker in the country as far as college football goes and Broncos need a middle linebacker. Maualuga is there man here at #12.
13. Washington Redskins James Laurinitus MLB Ohio State The Redskins will take the best player available here and London Fletcher is near retirement I know the Redskins have HB Blades out of Pittsburgh, but he was drafted in the 6th round and only had a rating of 93 on NCAA Football 07 which means he’s not that good. Laurinitus had better ratings than 93 on NCAA Football 08 and 09, but who cares about that. The bottom line is that Laurinitus is a can’t miss prospect.
14. New Orleans Saints Brandon Spikes MLB Florida with the Jonathan Vilma issue in hand the Saints need Brandon Spikes or another middle lineba
