My parents are from southern Mexico, they legally came to America when the amnesty was granted in the 80’s to Mexican citizens and became American citizens. I go to Mexico with them in the summer and my parents are building their retirement home in a wonderful 200 acre plot in the mountains of southern Mexico. The views from these mountains are breathtaking, everything is so green, and far from the noisy cities.
I did noticed something strange, that most of the wildlife in these forests was depleted such as rabbits, quail, and squirrels, and whitetail deer were nowhere to be found. The forests were beautiful but they were empty of wildlife. I then noticed that people hunt these animals all year round and shoot them on sight. There are no seasons for hunting animals and no hunting laws in place.
Why are whitetail deer nearly extinct in Mexico?

“people hunt these animals all year round and shoot them on sight. There are no seasons for hunting animals and no hunting laws in place.”
There are actually laws, they are just not enforced. If you kill and animal out of season, you are a POACHER and not a HUNTER. Poachers are criminals.
white tails are not native to that area of mexico. That area is part of the Sonora Desert as far as I know there are only mule Deer in that local, there is good hunting in some areas but it is because like Texas ranchers have put there own game plans into effect. There are hunting laws in Mexico and restriction on guns so be careful until you learn them.
I can walk through my hunting lease and we have several hundred deer and you can walk all over it and not see any deer. Like someone said that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. Have you forgotten how lawless that Mexico is.
Look at your last paragraph, you said people hunt them year round.
Well look at what you just said……also how do you know. They are good at hiding.
Only a pro could make such a observation.
I think you answered your own question.
You the man Okieroad! A picture or in this case “pictures” are worth a thousand words.
Saying there are no seasons for hunting animals and no hunting laws in place is simply ridiculous. Most Mexican states limit deer season to Dec 15-Jan 15, with only one buck allowed. Poaching is an issue, I’m sure, and I do know that bribing a cop will get you out of most situations. However, I don’t think the population has been depleted as much as you think.
I live in Oklahoma, and I have killed dozens of deer. We have hundreds of thousands in my state, but I can walk around for a dozen days in a spot full of deer and not see one. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
I think you just ANSWERED your own Question………..”I then noticed that people hunt these animals all year round and shoot them on sight. There are no seasons for hunting animals and no hunting laws in place’.
I mean NO INSULT to you or your Family but, Mexico is basically a ‘Lawless’ Country with a Corrupt Government that does not care for it’s OWN People, even the Police take/ask for BRIBES…”I’ve been there often enough to see/and have been approached”. I once took a Trip to Mexico City for a few days. Later rented a car to drive, through/over the Mountains, down to Acapulco. We stopped in Taxco (Silver shopping) for an overnight stay and in the morning we would Drive on to Acapulco. We spent the evening Dining with Locals and a ‘few’ Local Policemen and ‘they ALL confirmed my Suspicions’…. BEAUTIFUL Country, otherwise!
It is BEST your Parents ‘Retirement’ home is ‘up in the Mountains’ FAR AWAY from the Daily hustle, bustle & CRIME!
